About: Consumer Products
Digital Solution Group ("DSG") services the Consumer Products market (both brands and vertical retailers) to extend the value of Product Lifecycle Management ("PLM") by establishing digital fluidity between their PLM system and all upstream / downstream systems / services.
Consumer Products companies vary in how they address the overall flow of information in that one profile of company will use a single PLM system for the Engineering of the product, and manage all Product Line definition and development to a separate Assortment / Range Planning ("A/RP") system.

Consumer Product: E-PLM SolutionScape
This is depicted in the image below, noting that the A/RP system is used to define the product line, sometimes obtaining input from Industry trends / Market Analysis, as well as Voice of the Customer services.
Primary to the Engineering PLM (E-PLM) is the upload/download of (most often) 3D CAD tools, with selective use of 2D CAD tools for packaging / labeling. There is also potential for E-PLM to obtain piece parts / components from a Component / Product Sourcing services and levering Product Consumer Testing services to validate the product offering for market.

Output from E-PLM are:
In select instances there will be one or more independent Enterprise Database(s) ("DB"), as well as use of Internet of Things technology that connects a range of devices or systems that are necessary for the business operations. There should always exist some for of a reporting / Dashboard facility that obtains data from all systems / databases to present a wholistic view of product information both at present and historical.
Less often will exist some form of Artificial Intelligent (AI) / Machine Learning facilities that will bring insights to the product line profile, production, logistics, or product design. Though new to the Consumer Products market, this technology is fast-paced and advancing rapidly, leveraging the myriad of historic data that exists through the enterprise systems.
- Product imagery / attribute content to a Product Information Managment (PIM) system,
- Product / SKU level Bill of Material content to an Enterprise Planning System ("ERP"),
- Most often the ERP systems interfaces with Production / Delivery Logistics, though there may remain information that also comes from the E-PLM system.

Consumer Product: P & E-PLM SolutionScape
Though it may seem unnecessary to profile the two Consumer Products company profiles independently, this profile has subtle differences from the previous profile. This section will only identify differences from the E-PLM SolutionScape.
The P & E-PLM SoutionScape is depicted in the image below, noting that this configuration set replaced the A/RP system references above with a Product-centric PLM System (P-PLM) that is used to define the product line, sometimes obtaining input from Industry trends / Market Analysis, Voice of the Customer and Customer Review input services.
Because this form of PLM system is less often integrated directly with the E-PLM systems, the E-PLM system remains the system of record for all 3D CAD, while both the P-PLM and E-PLM can be the primary system of record of 2D CAD.

This duality of P-PLM and E-PLM integrations is also highly probable with Product Consumer Testing where results may affect both the product design (E-PLM) as well as the product pricing or other attributal data (P-PLM). The P-PLM system is expected to be the only system that requires integration with the Product Information Management (PIM) system since it is expected that sufficient imagery will exist in the P-PLM for Market Release publishing.
Enterprise DB, AI / Machine Learning, and Reports / Dashboards should be supported in like fastion as defined in the E-PLM profile of systems.

As is depicted in the above set of images, the range of potential systems / services is referred to as the PLM Based SolutionScape. This is because each brand / vertical retailer will leverage some or all of the systems / services depicted in progressing their products from mind to market.
The term SolutionScape is used because each brand / vertical retailer will most likely have a different mix of these systems and therefore there is not a specific set (or term) that addresses all of these variable systems / services sets.
It is also not likely that any of these brands / vertical retailers have their specific set of systems / services intelligently integrated (or intimated) with PLM.
This is where DSG is poised to assist brands / vertical retailers to transition from silo systems / services to a SolutionScape that enables digital fluidity throughout.
